Machine Production Photos

Just dusted off the photos we took behind the scenes of Machine. We’ve gone to town on the descriptions this time so if you really want to know how we did what we did, head over to the Flickr set, make yourself a cuppa and get reading. You’ll find a few abandoned prototype ideas in there as well, and some actual blood.

The Machine

We’ve finally dismantled the set for Fangoria, The Machine now <sad face>, but we did take lot’s of photos of it all before it got trashed <less sad face>. We now have a nice empty garage except for a large steampunk time machine sat in the corner.  We’re open to offers, it has some very minor dinosaur related damage, and a few thousand years on the clock.

Spooky Shitters 2010

We’ve haunted the toilets at Poke again, we might have gone too dark this time. Apparently most of the girls have to use toilets on another floor… women eh?

This year we’ve experimented a bit and tried some new tricks, each of the 3 toilets we’ve haunted is possessed by the ghost of a different family member, the Nursery is haunted by ‘baby’ and in this one we’re using chromadepth 3D glasses with UV lit fluorescent paint to make the whole room appear to be in weird ass 3D, you really need to see it in the flesh. It’s a trick that’s pretty old hat in American haunts but we’d not seen it before over here (thanks to Dave for showing us that).

Mother’s room uses projection mapping to make it appear that the door is haunted. Take a seat and watch as the door opens again and again to reveal some bad things happening just outside the door, and sometimes in the door itself.

And Father’s room, well Father isn’t a very nice man at all. Look out for a cameo role in this room played by the latex face mask we had made for our film All The Time in The World.

A history of Fangoria

Wow, our video for Fangoria 2010 got kinda popular. Mainly due to it appearing on Boing Boing but it also got picked up by a few other blogs such as The Escapist (ace write up on that one, cheers guys), Dvorak and Nerdcore. So with all this interest we thought we’d put together a page of all the stuff we’ve made from all the Fangoria shows we’ve done for the last 7 years, including lots of behind the scenes shots – and here it is:

Thanks to everyone who liked our video, we really appreciate all your comments.

Fangoria 2010 – Machine

A steam-punk styled adventure through time in the Fangorium. With 18 months of building and preparation it was by far our most ambitious show to date. When you pick a theme like steam-punk you can’t do half measures. This has enjoyed some massive Internet fame when Cory Doctorow called it “jaw-dropping awesomesauceular” on Boing Boing, which was of course totally awesome.

As an added bonus this year we’ve made a behind the scenes video, we’ve called The Engineers’ View. It’s a complicated beast to watch, but I guess that’s kind of the point… good luck.

Here’s the invite video:

Happy Halloween kids

We didn’t have much time this year for anything too elaborate to decorate the house with for the local Trick or Treaters, so we bunged up a screen and projected Mark Gervais’ excellent Hallowindow animation, put some speakers in the window, stapled up some torn up black sheets around the door and set the smoke machine to ‘auto’. Job Done. Apparently we got over 100 of the little sods turning up, and none of them tried to kill us or burn the house down, which is a sign of gratitude I guess.

Spooky Shitter II

Another year, another scary toilet instalation at Poke. This year we decieded to hit every toilet at once so there was no where to hide. Each loo is themed on a famous horror movie. Some are more subtle than others, but all are enough to make you mess your slacks. Lucky you’re already in the toilet. Guess the themes! (or just look at the files names)

Well this blog post is really really late, but anyway: This Halloween, we didn’t do a party, but we did haunt the toilets at Poke. A 3 day residency in the toilet at work is a strange thing to do, and a bit tricky to pull off in (nearly) complete secrecy, with a different theme each day – but it worked a treat, and we got a few screams. Here’s some photos.

Fangoria ’07 – The Movie

Ok, we’ve finally gone and done it, and finished the video of last year’s Fangoria. It’s all a bit swanky and shot in hi-def (I know, I can’t think of a reason why we did that either, other than ‘why not?’), so don’t get scared if it asks you to update your flash player just update the damn thing, welcome to the future. Click this shiny link to view it.
